Daljit Minhas, the owner of Fashion Designs of India, believes there’s one thing that still can’t be done on the Internet: it can’t convey the beauty and intricate handiwork found on the clothing items he sources from abroad. “I have to see the workmanship with my own eyes,” Daljit explains. “It’s hard to tell what it is like from a photo.”
Daljit’s items are one-of-a-kind, so you can rest assured you’ll be the only one wearing your particular sari or dress at your next special occasion. Bright and richly coloured saris, skirts, tops and dresses for women, as well as a variety of regional suits for men, can be found at Fashion Designs of India. The impressive 1,500 square foot space brings a piece of India to the South Commons in Edmonton. “I go to India and get ideas from the fashion and trade shows” says Daljit. “I hand-pick items from manufacturers based on what my customers like.”
