When you put together acclaimed chef David Gunawan, owner of the famed Farmer’s Apprentice and Grapes & Soda, and Jeff Donnelly, proprietor of several public houses and nightclubs, you know it’s going to be good – as in, really good.
In the summer of 2015, the two entrepreneurs joined forces. Both were inspired to open a high-end diner offering ambitious fare. The result of this collaboration is the award-winning Royal Dinette in Vancouver’s financial district.
Voted Best New Restaurant by Vancouver Magazine in 2016, the diner delivers a true farm-to-table experience that attracts local celebrities, dignitaries and everyone else who is passionate about innovative cuisine.
It is my first time in this restaurant I got so amazed by the wonderful and accommodating staff. The food was very tasty and well served. I was not expecting that the ambiance would be so overwhelming. I had the best lunch together with my new found friends here in Canada. I will definitely be back to enjoy their very sumptuous food.
Service was excellent. Atmosphere lovely. . Food disappointing. Smoked short ribs were devoid of ribs and tasted like hunks of pastrami and pork was dry. Braised lettuce underwhelming. Obviously on order to get a vegetable you have to order the salad. Not a repeat restaurant for us.
The host sat 2 of us in the middle of the room near the kitchen despite many other options. The wait staff were unfamiliar with cocktails and provided terrible wine pairing suggestions based on what we ordered. The happy hour specials on the website were not offered in the restaurant. The wait staff did not know how to support a client with a screaming child and were relieved when they left. Overall a terrible experience, couldn't leave fast enough. I won't return or recommend to others!
