“I started noticing an interesting thing when my kids were about two,” says George Wellsbury, owner of Reiki Hands On Healing in Whitby. “I remember all the kids on the block, including my own, would all collectively get sick.”
“Whenever my kids were sick, I’d hold them and cuddle them more than usual,” explains George. “One time when all the neighbourhood kids had the flu at the same time, my kids got better much faster than the other kids in the neighbourhood.”
It was around this time that George started taking notice of energy. “A girl from across the street came to stay over. She was sick with all my kids, they all had the same flu symptoms. So I huddled all the kids together for a period of time. The next morning, I noticed they were all quite cured including the girl from across the street.”
George could see a connection between energy and healing and knew that he wanted to work with it. “I started playing around with energy and practiced on a few friends and family members. Then a friend said to me, ‘You know, there’s a name for what you’re doing. It’s Reiki.'”
