Shaina Sala’s family has spent decades creating and decorating Calgary homes. Her grandfather built homes in Midnapore, and her mother is an interior designer, so starting a business related to beautifying hearth and home was a natural choice. Sala and her husband Alexander own Showhome Furniture, an expansive store in Deerfoot Mall that carries unique imported furniture and home accessories. Passionate bargain hunters and lovers of vintage finds, they began selling furniture at community sales in 2005. The success of those sales led them to seek a permanent storefront in 2013, and since then, the business has exploded mostly thanks to word of mouth, Sala says. “We hardly do any advertising. We think if people like us, they’ll tell their friends. We rely on that, and having good customer service.”
