London and New York are two of the best known theatre destinations in the world. But in Edmonton there’s a growing theatre scene with its own distinct personality. Rapid Fire Theatre is one theatre group that is helping to develop the scene with not only its approach to acting but to comedy as well. So what is it that makes Rapid Fire stand out? It's use of one particular muse: Improvisation.
“Rapid Fire Theatre is one of the hubs of improvisation in Western Canada. Rapid Fire is a non-profit society that started out producing Theatresports, our flagship short form improv show, in 1981. Over 30 years later, the organization has grown to produce hundreds of shows a year, including four festivals, event entertainment and public workshops,” says Amy Shostak, the artistic director of Rapid Fire Theatre.
