The trend towards fresh-press juiceries in Vancouver is more than just a passing fad says Briana Wutch, one half of the duo behind Radicle Juice. “There's a huge awakening here for juice as people start to realize its benefits,” she explains. “Juice can help you sleep better and give you more clarity, it boosts your immune system and it can act as an appetite suppressant, too. I'm not a doctor but I've definitely noticed this anecdotally.”
She and her husband, David Nixon, who's also the man behind Adrenaline Professional Body Piercing and Tattoos, ventured into the juice market, as fresh-pressed juice had become part of their lives when they had children. Like many parents, they were focused on finding a healthy balance when it came to feeding their kids, and they wanted to take that further by making it easier for people to invest in their health.
When they were in the process of opening Radicle Juice on Main Street at 15th between The Last Crumb and Burgoo, they intrigued locals with their #takebackjuice hashtag. “We wanted to create a hashtag that was about what we believe in: taking juice back to what it should be — no fillers, no sugar, just whole food,” says Briana.
