Food was AMAZING! Service left something to be desired. Did not feel attended to. Waited an hour for our food to arrive. Went without drinks.I would still go back. The food was that good!
After seeing this restaurant featured on the Food Network show, "You Gotta Eat Here", I decided to try it out while visiting Winnipeg. The experience exceeded my expectations. I ate there for lunch. The menu isn't very large but features some European staples including some Danish specialties. Prices are are quirte reasonable for cuisine of this type. Fortunately, I came with a strong appetite because the portion I received, despite being "lunch size", was huge. I ordered the three dishes featured on television. My plate consisted of the "Dansk" pork schnitzel, their famous sweet and sour cabbage and potato salad instead of roasted potato. The schnitzel was perhaps one of the most perfectly executed I have ever had. Besides being a decent size, the breading was crispy and the meat was perfectly seasoned as well as tender. The cabbage was delicious with bits of bacon. The potato salad was very delicate and light with very small pieces of tender spuds. Again, one of the best potato salads I have ever had. I have read another review here complaining about the service. During my visit, I received good, friendly attention. The atmosphere is pleasant. Overall, this was a excellent dining experience. They obviously take pride in their cusine and they have perfected schnitzel. I look forward to returning and trying some of their other specialties.
From service to food. The woman who, I believe, co-owns this places is the rudest person I've ever met. She was snippy and dismissive to my elderly grandmother. She would not allow me to park my handicap vehicle in their parking lot, as it's for "staff only", although there was no staff coming or going at the time. She was going out of her way to be rude, when we were nothing but friendly paying customers. My food was just a pile of dried out lunch meat on an equally dried out piece of bread. Sure, there was enough to feed an army on my plate, but it was boring and hardly edible. My grandmothers chicken wasn't much better. All I remember about it was the grease. Definitely the worst restaurant I've been to in a long time.
Seriously, good cozy atmosphere, like you're in some little place in switzerland. The schnitzel is mouth-watering and the potatoes are perfect with little green specks in it. Veggies are good. Veggies are veggies, what more can I say? Service is outstanding and polite and warm and friendly. After eating here I wanted to just curl up and live in the restaurant so I could eat schnitzle everyday for the rest of my life. Good beer selection too.
We have eaten here numerous times. Quite often we will phone ahead and pick up on our way home. The food is good, healthy and satisfying. The prices are great and the atmosphere very comfortable. I would recommend it to everyone.
